DIYBattery Limited Battery Warranty
DIYBattery warrants that eligible products are free from manufacturer defects in materials and workmanship for the warranty period shown on the original invoice, warranty documentation, product listing, or written confirmation provided by DIYBattery.
Depending on the battery purchased, coverage may include:
-
A Free Replacement Warranty Period
-
An additional Pro-Rated Warranty Period
-
An optional DIYBattery Premium Warranty
The specific warranty applicable to a battery is determined by the warranty information associated with the customer's original purchase.
Free Replacement Warranty
If an eligible battery fails due to a covered manufacturer defect during the applicable Free Replacement Warranty Period, the customer may qualify for a replacement battery at no additional charge for the battery itself.
Any replacement battery provided under the Free Replacement Warranty will be identical to, or reasonably equivalent to, the original battery purchased.
If the exact battery model is discontinued, unavailable, or no longer stocked, DIYBattery or the applicable warranty provider may supply a reasonably equivalent replacement with comparable specifications, technology, fitment, and intended application.
A free warranty replacement does not restart the original warranty period.
Any remaining warranty coverage from the original battery carries over to the replacement battery unless otherwise stated by the applicable manufacturer or warranty provider.
Pro-Rated Warranty
Certain batteries may include an additional Pro-Rated Warranty Period after the Free Replacement Warranty expires.
If an eligible battery fails due to a covered defect during the Pro-Rated Warranty Period, the customer may be eligible to purchase a replacement battery at a discounted price.
The applicable discount is calculated according to the warranty terms associated with the battery and the amount of time that has passed since the original purchase.
The retail price of the replacement battery at the time of the warranty claim may be different from the original purchase price.
Applicable taxes, environmental fees, core charges, delivery fees, installation fees, and other service charges are not included unless specifically stated otherwise.
A replacement battery purchased through a Pro-Rated Warranty claim will receive the warranty applicable to the new replacement purchase beginning on its new purchase date.
How to Start a Warranty Claim
Customers must contact DIYBattery before returning or shipping any battery.
DIYBattery will provide:
-
Warranty claim instructions
-
The applicable return address
-
Shipping or transportation instructions where required
-
Any applicable claim or return authorization information
-
Additional documentation requirements, if applicable
Customers must not ship, courier, mail, or otherwise transport a battery to DIYBattery, a supplier, warehouse, distributor, manufacturer, or any other location unless DIYBattery has specifically provided or approved the return instructions.
No Walk-In Warranty Drop-Offs
Warranty batteries cannot be dropped off in person unless DIYBattery specifically authorizes the drop-off in writing.
DIYBattery does not accept unauthorized walk-in warranty returns.
Shipping a battery to an address found online, on a previous invoice, or through another source does not constitute an authorized warranty return.
Unauthorized shipments or returns may be refused.
Battery Shipping and Transportation
Batteries may be subject to special packaging, handling, carrier, or transportation requirements.
Customers must not independently package or ship a battery before receiving instructions from DIYBattery.
The customer is responsible for following all shipping, packaging, carrier, and transportation instructions provided for the warranty return.
Unless otherwise covered by the DIYBattery Premium Warranty, another DIYBattery service, or specifically stated in writing:
The customer is responsible for the cost of returning or transporting the battery for warranty inspection.
DIYBattery is not responsible for unauthorized shipping costs or for shipments made contrary to the return instructions provided.
Proof of Purchase
Customers may be required to provide proof of purchase before a warranty claim can be processed.
Acceptable proof may include:
-
DIYBattery invoice
-
Receipt
-
Order confirmation
-
Warranty documentation
-
Other purchase records accepted by DIYBattery
The applicable warranty period generally begins from the original purchase or delivery date shown in DIYBattery's records unless otherwise stated.
DIYBattery may also require photographs, battery identification numbers, serial numbers, date codes, vehicle information, or other information reasonably required to process the claim.
Battery Testing and Inspection
A battery must normally be tested or inspected before a standard warranty replacement can be approved.
A discharged battery is not necessarily defective.
Testing may include, where applicable:
-
Battery voltage
-
State of charge
-
Starting or cranking performance
-
Conductance or battery health testing
-
Charging system testing
-
Physical inspection
-
Terminal condition
-
Serial number or date-code verification
-
Signs of improper charging
-
Signs of freezing, impact, abuse, or physical damage
-
Vehicle or application information
A battery may need to be charged before accurate warranty testing can be completed.
Testing procedures may be performed by DIYBattery, an authorized warehouse, distributor, manufacturer, supplier, or another warranty provider.
Standard Warranty Determination
DIYBattery may assist customers with standard warranty claims, but warranty approval may ultimately be determined by the applicable manufacturer, distributor, supplier, warehouse, or warranty administrator.
DIYBattery cannot guarantee that a standard warranty claim will be approved before the battery has been inspected and tested.
Payment of transportation, delivery, pickup, processing, diagnostic, or other service fees does not guarantee warranty approval.
DIYBattery Warranty Processing Service
Customers who do not want to manage the standard warranty return process themselves may be able to purchase a DIYBattery Warranty Processing Service in eligible service areas.
This service is separate from the manufacturer's warranty.
Depending on the service selected, DIYBattery may:
-
Pick up the customer's suspected defective battery
-
Transport the battery to the applicable warehouse or warranty facility
-
Submit or assist with the warranty claim
-
Coordinate battery testing
-
Communicate with the applicable warranty provider
-
Monitor the claim
-
Inform the customer of the final decision
-
Coordinate the customer's next steps
The customer pays a service fee for DIYBattery's pickup, transportation, handling, coordination, and warranty-processing services.
The Service Fee Does Not Guarantee Warranty Approval
The DIYBattery Warranty Processing Service pays for the service being performed, not the outcome of the warranty claim.
If the applicable warranty provider determines that the battery is not defective or is otherwise not covered under warranty, the processing fee remains payable and is generally non-refundable.
Additional charges may apply for:
-
Returning a declined battery to the customer
-
Additional transportation
-
Additional delivery
-
Replacement battery delivery
-
Installation
-
Extended service areas
-
Additional testing or services requested by the customer
DIYBattery will communicate the available options following the warranty determination.
DIYBattery Premium Warranty
Certain eligible batteries may be offered with an optional DIYBattery Premium Warranty.
Where purchased or specifically included with an order, the DIYBattery Premium Warranty provides a One-Time Hassle-Free Battery Replacement during the applicable Premium Warranty period.
The Premium Warranty is separate from the standard manufacturer warranty.
What the DIYBattery Premium Warranty Includes
For one eligible Premium Warranty claim, DIYBattery will provide:
-
One eligible replacement battery
-
Standard replacement battery delivery
-
Pickup of the covered battery being replaced
-
DIYBattery handling of the returned battery and applicable warranty process
The customer does not need to independently return the covered battery to a warehouse or manufacturer.
DIYBattery handles the battery after it has been collected.
How a Premium Warranty Replacement Works
The process is designed to be simple:
-
The customer contacts DIYBattery and requests Premium Warranty service.
-
DIYBattery verifies that an active Premium Warranty is attached to the eligible order and battery.
-
DIYBattery confirms the applicable replacement and service availability.
-
A DIYBattery driver delivers the eligible replacement battery.
-
The driver collects the customer's original covered battery.
-
DIYBattery handles the returned battery and any applicable warehouse, supplier, distributor, or manufacturer process afterward.
The customer receives the replacement without having to independently manage the standard battery warranty return process.
Original Battery Must Be Returned
The original battery covered by the Premium Warranty must be surrendered to DIYBattery when the replacement battery is provided.
The customer cannot retain both the original covered battery and the Premium Warranty replacement.
If the original battery:
-
Is unavailable
-
Cannot be located
-
Has already been disposed of
-
Has been transferred to another person
-
Is not available for pickup
-
Does not match the battery associated with the covered order
DIYBattery may decline the Premium Warranty replacement or require payment for the replacement battery and/or applicable core charges.
One-Time Premium Warranty Coverage
The DIYBattery Premium Warranty provides one replacement per covered battery purchase unless the customer's warranty documentation specifically states otherwise.
Once the Premium Warranty replacement has been completed, the Premium Warranty benefit for that original purchase has been fulfilled.
The Premium Warranty does not automatically reset or renew when a replacement battery is provided.
Any future battery warranty coverage will be determined by the warranty applicable to the replacement battery.
Premium Warranty Replacement Battery
DIYBattery will normally provide the same battery model when reasonably available.
If the exact model is unavailable, discontinued, superseded, or no longer offered, DIYBattery may provide a reasonably equivalent battery suitable for the same intended application.
The replacement may be selected based on factors such as:
-
Battery technology
-
Group size
-
Vehicle fitment
-
Cold Cranking Amps
-
Reserve capacity
-
Amp-hour capacity where applicable
-
Terminal configuration
-
Intended application
-
Availability
The Premium Warranty does not guarantee a specific brand, model, cosmetic design, or label where an appropriate equivalent replacement is required.
Premium Warranty Service Area
Premium Warranty pickup and delivery are available only within eligible DIYBattery service areas.
Service availability may depend on:
-
Customer location
-
Driver availability
-
Battery availability
-
Delivery zone
-
Vehicle accessibility
-
Weather
-
Road conditions
-
Other operational limitations
If the customer relocates outside an eligible DIYBattery service area, free pickup or delivery may no longer be available.
DIYBattery may offer alternative arrangements or paid transportation options where available.
Installation and Labour
Unless installation is specifically shown as included on the customer's invoice, order confirmation, or Premium Warranty terms, battery installation is separate from the replacement battery and delivery benefit.
Additional charges may apply for:
-
Battery installation
-
Difficult battery access
-
Batteries located under seats, panels, trunks, wheel wells, or other components
-
Vehicles requiring component removal
-
Battery registration or programming
-
Battery system resets
-
Specialty vehicles
-
Commercial vehicles
-
Modified vehicles
-
Additional diagnostic work
DIYBattery will inform the customer of applicable charges before performing additional paid services where reasonably possible.
Premium Warranty Appointment Requirements
Where pickup or delivery is scheduled, the customer is responsible for providing reasonable access to the covered battery or vehicle.
The customer or an authorized representative may be required to be present.
If DIYBattery cannot complete the service because:
-
The customer is unavailable
-
The vehicle cannot be accessed
-
The battery is inaccessible
-
The battery is not ready for pickup
-
The wrong location was provided
-
The original battery is unavailable
a rescheduling, delivery, or service fee may apply.
Premium Warranty Abuse and Eligibility
The DIYBattery Premium Warranty is intended to provide customers with a simple and hassle-free replacement experience.
However, coverage does not apply to fraudulent or intentionally abusive claims.
DIYBattery may verify:
-
That the battery is covered by the applicable order
-
That the Premium Warranty has not previously been used
-
That the original covered battery is being surrendered
-
That the claim is being made by an eligible customer
-
That the battery identification reasonably corresponds to the covered purchase
Coverage may be denied in cases involving:
-
Fraud
-
Intentional destruction
-
Deliberate damage
-
Altered or removed identification markings
-
Altered serial numbers or date codes
-
Substitution of a different battery
-
Multiple claims against the same one-time coverage
-
Theft or misrepresentation
These provisions do not prevent legitimate customers from using their Premium Warranty because of an ordinary battery failure.
Premium Warranty Has No Cash Value
Unless required by applicable law, unused or used Premium Warranty benefits:
-
Cannot be redeemed for cash
-
Cannot be exchanged for store credit
-
Cannot be applied toward unrelated products
-
Cannot be converted into a refund
-
Cannot be used more than once
The benefit is the battery replacement and associated services specifically described by the applicable Premium Warranty.
Premium Warranty Transferability
Unless DIYBattery specifically agrees otherwise in writing, the DIYBattery Premium Warranty applies to the original covered purchase and original purchaser.
The Premium Warranty is not automatically transferable if the battery, order, or vehicle is sold or transferred to another person.
Battery Ownership, Recycling and Disposal
A battery surrendered to DIYBattery as part of a completed warranty replacement may be returned to the applicable manufacturer, warehouse, distributor, recycler, or supplier.
Once DIYBattery has supplied the applicable replacement and accepted the surrendered battery, the returned battery may be processed, recycled, tested, returned to the supplier, or otherwise handled as part of the warranty and recycling process.
Customers should not expect a surrendered battery to be returned after a replacement claim has been completed unless specifically arranged beforehand.
Declined Warranty Batteries
If a standard warranty claim is declined, DIYBattery will communicate the available next steps where DIYBattery is handling the process.
Depending on the circumstances, these options may include:
-
Returning the battery to the customer
-
Purchasing a replacement battery
-
Authorizing recycling or disposal
-
Arranging another service
Additional transportation, delivery, pickup, or service fees may apply.
If the customer does not provide instructions regarding a declined battery within a reasonable period after notification, DIYBattery may issue additional notices and may ultimately arrange recycling or disposal where permitted.
Any applicable storage, transportation, or handling terms will be communicated where relevant.
Core Charges
Certain batteries may be subject to a core charge or core deposit.
Core charges are separate from warranty coverage unless specifically stated otherwise.
A core charge may apply if the customer receives a replacement battery but does not surrender an eligible replacement core when required.
Incorrect Battery Application and Vehicle Problems
Warranty coverage applies to qualifying battery defects.
A battery may not qualify for standard defect warranty coverage where the issue is caused by the vehicle, installation, operating environment, or application rather than a defect in the battery.
Examples may include:
-
Incorrect battery group size
-
Incorrect battery technology
-
Battery installed in an incompatible application
-
Improper installation
-
Loose connections
-
Corroded terminals
-
Parasitic electrical drains
-
Defective alternator
-
Defective starter
-
Charging system problems
-
Overcharging
-
Undercharging
-
Aftermarket electrical equipment
-
High-powered audio systems
-
Modified electrical systems
-
Vehicle control module problems
-
Extended vehicle storage without appropriate battery maintenance
Customers are responsible for ensuring the battery is suitable for their intended application.
Where DIYBattery provides fitment assistance, customers should provide accurate vehicle and application information.
Standard Warranty Exclusions
The standard manufacturer's limited warranty generally does not cover a battery that is merely discharged and capable of being recharged.
Standard warranty coverage may also exclude failures or damage resulting from:
-
Abuse
-
Neglect
-
Misuse
-
Improper application
-
Improper installation
-
Accident
-
Collision
-
Fire
-
Explosion
